Resistance Leaders Placed under House Arrest
SRINAGAR; A number of resistance leaders in the Kashmir valley were put under house arrest as a 'preventive measure' in the wake of death of a youth and injuries to three others in Indian force firing on demonstrators in north Kashmir district of Bandipora last evening.
A spokespersons for moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) said chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq was put under house arrest since early this morning.
He said Mirwaiz was not being allowed to move out from his Nigeen house, where a large number of security forces and state police personnel had been deployed.
Peoples Political Party chairman Hilal Ahmad War has been taken into preventive custody from his Maisuma residence on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Mohammad Yaseen Malik was also put under house arrest at Maisuma in Srinagar, a spokesman of the front said.
Democratic Freedom Party chief Shabir Ahmad Shah and National Front chairman Nayeem Ahmad Khan, who recently formed third faction of the Hurriyat were also put under house arrest since Saturday morning.
