Awami Itehad Party Vehicle Stoned in Kulgam
KULGAM; Agitated people stoned the vehicle of Awami Ithihaad Party used for elections campaigning in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Eyewitnesses told a local news gathering agency CNS that the supporters of AIP used public address system in their tata mobile vehicle to attract the attention of the voters.
As the vehicle near Bugam area of Kulgam town, scores of people present on road attacked it with stones.
“Our vehicle was damaged as the people pelted stones indiscriminately on our vehicle. They smashed the windowpanes and damaged the public address system,” one of the workers of AIP told CNS.
The AIP candidate for South Kashmir Parliament seat Tanvir Hussain Khan while confirming the incident siad that he was not part of that rally.
“Some miscreants pelted stones on our vehicle near Bugam,” he said.
AIP President Engineer Rashid siad that the attack was reportedly carried out by CPI(M) supporters.
“The supporters of Tarigami are frustrated in the town as AIP has gained ground there. It was a political conspiracy and police has registered a case against the supporters of CPI(M),” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Jehangir Ahmed Mir said that AIP workers were roaming without security, as they had not sought the permission from the district administration. (CNS)
