1-way traffic plies on Srinagar-Jammu highway
SRINAGAR: Mar 05: One-way traffic from the valley continued to ply on the 300-km Srinagar-Jammu national highway despite slippery road condition and landslides triggered by heavy rains at different places.
On Monday, vehicles, including those carrying passengers and empty trucks, gas and oil tankers, left different parts of the valley for Jammu. No vehicle was allowed from Jammu to Srinagar.
However, this was contested by people who alleged that traffic and local police were allowing vehicles, particularly trucks from both sides, whose drivers paid bribes.
They said that despite prior announcement that only vehicles from Jammu to Srinagar will be allowed to ply on the highway on Sunday, hundreds of vehicles from Srinagar to Jammu were allowed that resulted in major traffic jams
Commuters who left Jammu at 6.30am on Sunday had reached Srinagar at 03.30am on Monday morning because of traffic jams.
