Cocoon auction market organised by Sericulture Department
SRINAGAR; 25, Aug 2012: The Department of Sericulture, Kashmir Division has organised Cocoon Auction Market at Allochibagh, Srinagar from August 25, 2012, to facilitate the farmers of the valley to sell their cocoon produce at competitive rates.
All appropriate arrangements have been made to accommodate the buyers and the sellers. Buyers from outside the state are also participating in the market.
On the inaugural day, about 150 farmers sold their produce of 4,000 Kgs of cocoons in the market. The price ranges from Rs 300 to Rs 650 per Kg (dry)and the farmers are paid cash on spot.
The Department has arranged the Cocoon Bank facility for the buyers and the reelers. The valley is expected to produce 3.20 lakh Kgs of cocoons this year.
