India's Independence Day bring miseries to Kashmir

SRINAGAR; 13, Aug 2012: Heavy contingent of Indian police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at all major entry and exit points of Srinagar and other major towns in the territory ahead of India’s Independence Day, on Wednesday.

Huge number of police personnel and troops are guarding Bakhshi Stadium, Lal Chowk, Jehangir Chowk, Budshah Chowk, Maisuma, Hari Singh High Street, Dalgate and other areas to prevent any untoward incident during August 15 official celebrations.“Sniffer dogs, Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs), high-tech access control equipment and human surveillance are in place the areas,” a senior police officer told media men.

The officer said that police teams in plainclothes had been watching Srinagar and other towns of the Valley. “Sharp shooters have been deployed at all high-rise buildings around Bakhshi Stadium to meet any eventuality,” the officer said, adding that Iqbal Park, located adjacent to the Bakhshi Stadium had been sealed for visitors and would be thrown open on August 16.

Indian Police, paramilitary and Army personnel have intensified patrolling. Random checking of vehicles and frisking of pedestrians in Lal Chowk and other areas of the city have also been intensified.

In Baramulla, Sopore, Kupwara, Handwara and Bandipora, Narbal, Pattan, Sangrama, Pulwama, Shopian and Islamabad areas Indian police, paramilitary forces and other agencies are carrying out random searches of passenger and private vehicles.

CRPF Spokesman, Sudhir Kumar, said that the paramilitary forces had been put on alert.
