SSP Srinagar Summonned for use of brute force against women protestors

SRINAGAR; 24, Aug 2012: The Human Rights Commission  has directed a police officer to appear before it in connection with use of excessive force against a woman protestor in Srinagar last month.
Javaid Kawos, member of the human rights commission, issued directives to the senior superintendent of police of Srinagar to appear before the panel on October 4.

The commission took suo moto cognizance of a woman protestor who got fainted after police quelled a protest in Batamaloo area in July.

The commission earlier sought a report on the incident from the director general of police and the senior superintendent of police.

“The report was not submitted on the scheduled date and on August 23 the commission asked the Srinagar senior superintendent of police to appear in person on Oct 4,” said reports.

The victim was pushed by a policeman, causing her to faint on the road, the HRC said.
