10 Jr Doctors resigned at SMHS Hospital
SRINAGAR; 13, Sep 2012: The confusion between the senior and junior doctors is “marring” the smooth functioning Kashmir's oldest hospital. On Wednesday, it reached a new level when 10 junior doctors of the Anesthesia Department submitted their “resignation” allegedly due to “harassment and intimidation” of seniors towards them at the Shri Hari Singh Hospital in Srinagar.
While as the senior doctors claimed that junior doctors were themselves responsible for the “mess” and were not showing any “respect” towards the seniors.
Sources said, in the Anesthesia Department of SMHS, there are only 14 Registrars, out of which 10 have submitted their resignation following confusion between the senior and junior doctors.
The junior doctors say the seniors were “misbehaving” with them and were rude towards the juniors. While as the senior doctors contradict their claims and put the blame on the juniors.
They (seniors) claim that the juniors were misbehaving with them and were not treating them as seniors.
Sources said, on Tuesday, Dr. Masood Rashid, Registrar Anesthesia Department sent his resignation to the Principle GMC, via through department.
A resignation copy of Dr. Masood says that he (Dr. Masood Rashid) has resigned against the faulty/ bad working atmosphere created by his seniors. However, sources said the department has not forward the resignation letter to the Principle, GMC so far.
The junior doctors who have submitted their resignations claimed, they were being harassed by the senior doctors.
“We have resigned on Wednesday as a form of protest as we are being harassed by our senior doctors. The seniors are not attending their duties regularly and if any junior raises the objection, they (senior) doctors intimidate us and misbehave with us,” said a doctor, who has also submitted his resignation.
The junior doctors (Registrars of Anesthesia Dept.) claimed that senior doctors were not helping them if they required any consultant doctor’s opinion.
“The senior doctors’ harsh attitude has forced us to resign today,” they claimed.
While as a senior medico of SMHS Hospital claimed that junior doctors have created confusion and were not showing any respect towards the seniors.
Due to the confusion between the seniors and junior, the patients had to suffer on Wednesday as they were left unattended.
Sources said, those Non-PSC Registrars and PSC Registrars of Anesthesia Department (junior doctors) who have submitted their resignation include, Dr. Mustafa, Dr. Wahid, Dr.Masood, Dr. Showkat, Dr. Waseem, Dr. Manzoor, Dr. Masroor.
When contacted the Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital, Dr. Nazir Chowdhary, he refused to divulge the details. “I can’t comment on that. The SMHS hospital is under the control of Principal Govt. Medical College and it is better to talk to the Principal,” he said.
When asked, had he received any resignations from the junior doctors, he had this to say, “No, I have not received any resignation. I told you to talk to the Principle; he can give you the details.”
Despite repeated attempts, Principle GMC, Srinagar, Dr. Qazi Masood did not pick up the phone.
