Protests held in Kashmir over anti-islamic movie
SRINAGAR; 14, Sep 2012: Protests were held at various places of Kashmir over the Blasphemous movie on Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
Reports said clashes erupted in Palhallan region of the district of Baramulla, about 65 kilometres from the summer capital Srinagar, soon after the Friday congregation al prayers got over. Scores of youth tried to take out a procession in the region but were stopped by the government forces leading to clashes. The youth hurled stones at the forces which was retaliated with tear smoke shells, sources said.
Clashes also errupted in Old Town Baramulla where protesters set ablaze American and Israel flags. Scores of youth assembled after the prayers and hurled stones at the forces who tried to stop them from taking out a procession.
Minor clashes also erupted in Sopore town of north Kashmir, about 55 kilometres from here, where youth also clashed with forces,
Minor clashes also took place in Maisuma in uptown Srinagar. However, forces use tear smoke shells to quell the protests.
Lawyers assembled at Lal Chowk Srinagar and staged a protest. Students of Kashmir University after offering Friday prayers also hold a protest in University Campus.
Peaceful protests were also reported from Shopian.
There was no report of any damage or causality so far.
