Kashmiri Traders harassed in Madhya Pradesh

SRINAGAR; 19, Oct 2012: Despite repeated assurances from the central and the state government, Kashmir shopkeepers in central Indian state, Madhya Pradesh, are ‘being harassed by some political backed people’, reports says.
Business of traders and shopkeepers from Kashmir is badly hit in Orchha district in Madhya Pradesh after they were allegedly harassed by ‘some political backed people’, reports say.
Madhya Pradesh is headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan currently and similar complaints from Kashmir students have surface before.
A delegation of Kashmir traders and shopkeepers today met Devinder Singh Rana, political adviser to chief minister Omar Abdullah, in the Civil Secretariat Srinagar.
Rana, sources say, assured the delegation that government is committed to ensure the safety and security of the traders, students who work or study outside the state and ‘will not tolerate any hooliganism against any person from any part of the state’. He told the delegation that “any such matters are of grave concern to government.”
Sources say Rana also spoke with the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Congress General Secretary, Digvijay Singh, who assured him that “he will talk to the Collector and the authorities and ensure that Kashmiri’s feel safe”
