Unknown Gunmen attacked Indian army convoy in Nowgam

SRINAGAR; 19, Oct 2012: Unidentified gunmen have opened fire on an Indian military convey on National Highway in Nowgam area of Srinagar. At least one person was killed and two were wounded.

A police official said the gunmen attacked the convoy on the outskirts of Srinagar and then entered the grounds of the Silver Star hotel. Indian troopers also retailed with the firing due to which three employees of the hotel were injured. Out of them one succumbed and 2 others were hospitalised in critical conditions.

The police officer said that a search operation was under way. He couldn't be named because he wasn't authorized to speak to reporters.

A Vehicle of Indian Army was completely destroyed in the attack. Also the number of injured troops is yet to be ascertained.

However Later Hizbul Mujahideen group claimed the responsibility for the attack and also denied the fact that the civilians were injured by the firing of them. They further claimed that Indian troopers allegedly shot the civilians after they failed to nab us.
