Fake drug scam: Crime Branch books spurious drug suppliers, officials

JAMMU; 21, April 2013:  Amid protests in the state, Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch has booked the owners of a drug company and government officials in connection with supply and purchase of spurious drugs.
Jammu Crime Branch has registered a case against the proprietors of Life Line Pharmaco Surgicals of Jammu and members of the Purchase Committee of Health and Medical Education Department for supply and purchase of Amoxicillin Trihydrate and Potassium Clavulanate Diluted drugs, Crime Branch officers said today.
According to official sources, Crime Branch has booked spurious drug case under FIR Number 10 of 2013 under section 274,420,465,467,468,471,120-B RPC r/w Section 5(2) P.C.Act Svt.2006 and Section 27 of Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 against Proprietors of M/s Life Line Pharmaco Surgicals,130/4 Dream City, Muthi, Jammu and members of the purchase Committee-II of Health and Medical Education Department J&K, Jammu with regard to supply/purchase of spurious drugs.
According to official sources, " Crime Branch has arrested Ashok Kumar Raina and taken him into the custody for questioning. Some incriminating documents and material has also been recovered and seized from his possession during the raid,” the senior CB official said.
He said that the drug license was in the name of Amar Deep who has been working in Delhi with some company.
“We have sent a Crime Branch team in the national capital for his arrest,” official sources said, while disclosing that they have launched a massive hunt in Jammu against Akhil Gadoo, who is hiding somewhere in the winter capital.
Though the drug license is issued on the name of Amar Deep, the officer said that Ashok (arrested in the case) participated in the tendering and got the contract probably with the connivance of the purchase committee –II and other Government officials.
Disclosing that the members of the purchase committee will also be rounded up in the case, the senior CB officer said, preliminary investigation revealed that these drugs were manufactured in a factory out side the State which as per the accused (Ashok) has been sealed by the authorities concerned, details whereof are being ascertained.
