Protesters locked PDD office, thrashed employees in Pattan

BARAMULLA; 17, May 2013: Agitated protestors in North Kashmir’s Pattan town thrashed PDD employees for not taking care of their damaged transformer. People even locked the office and raised slogans against Power Development Department.

According to reports, scores of people from Najar Mohalla Pattan assembled in the premises of PDD office. Amid anti-PDD slogans protestors entered into the office. They got agitated after finding AEE and JE absent from their duties. People forced PDD employees to leave the house and even some of the protestors thrashed few employees and locked the office.

Protestors were demanding immediate repairmen of their damaged transformer. “Whole area is reeling under darkness while the authorities did not pay any heed to their woes. We had repeatedly requested PDD officers to get our damaged transformer repaired but nothing was done in this regard,” one of the protestors told.

Meanwhile Superintending Engineer Sub-Division Sopore blamed people for their harsh attitude and said that there is a shortage of oil while their transformer has been almost repaired. “People always take law in their own hands and harass PDD employees which is unacceptable. Last time also people damaged the property of PDD and thrashed employees,” he said.
