Forced Shutdown paralyzed life in parts of Jammu region

JAMMU; 31, July 2013: Activists of Hindu extremist wings including Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parisad and Shivena forced shopkeepers to put down their shutters in towns of Sunderbani, Noushera, Kalakote, Rajouri and Poonch. They also blocked Jammu-Poonch National Highway to protest against the killing of Amarnath Yatri (Pilgrim) Ravi Kanth.

Ravi Kanth was injured on 19th July after he was hit by a stone in Awantipora area of Pulwama, when people was protesting against the killing of Six Civilians in Gool Ramban and desecration of Holy Quran.

Later Ravi succumbed to his injuries in SKIMS Soura on 30th July.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had yesterday announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh to his family.

Four persons were arrested yesterday for their alleged involvement in the stone-pelting incident which left Sharma critically injured.
