SRINAGAR; 29, July 2013: Scores of people staged massive protest against the inability of police to locate a missing youth in Ganderbal on Monday. The dead body of the youth was found in Parimpora area of Srinagar on Sunday.

Agitated protestors alleged that police did not show any keenness to locate the missing youth. “Hilal Ahmed Kumar son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Bhatpora Dabtal Ganderbal went on missing a week ago. We filed a missing report in police station Shadipora but police did not show seriousness to locate the missing youth,” one of the family members of the deceased told adding that police has failed to serve the interests of people in the area.

Protestors raised anti-police slogans and appealed to higher authorities to take stern action against the Station House Officer, Shadipora. Traffic came to standstill for hours as protestors blocked the road. It was only after the intervention of top police and district administration officials that protestors dispersed peacefully.

Station House Officer Shadipora Mohammad Saleem told that police did everything to trace the missing youth, however unfortunately he had met with an accident at Parimpora and breathed his last. “We have taken up investigation and waiting for the post mortem report,” he said.
