Curfew Lifted from Kishtwar after 12 Days

KISHTWAR; 21, Aug 2013: Curfew has been lifted today in Kishtwar district of Jammu region after 12 days since the communal violence broke out.

An all-party delegation held a joint meeting with both the communities of the Town during which the parties decided to help in maintaining communal harmony in area.

“After both the communities responded positively, it was realized that there is no need of any curfew now so it was lifted,” an official told

The peace march was also held by the members of two communities.

Pertinently, on 9th of August, some hindus allegedly pelted stones on muslims in Chowgan ground, soon after the muslims concluded their Eid prayers. This led to the violent clashes between the 2 communities. 3 persons (2 muslims and 1 hindu) were killed and more than 80 were injured in the clashes.

The pro-freedom leaders are demanding strict punishment against those who started this violence and have also demanded for the disbanding of Village Defense Committees, who are provided with the weapons by the State government.
