Kashmir Shuts on India's Independence Day
SRINAGAR; 15, Aug 2013: Like in past, this year also, Kashmir observed a civil curfew like situation on the Independence day of India. Some I-day functions were held by pro-Indian leaders in high security cover, however these functions were out of reach from a common man.

Most streets appeared deserted except for security patrols and skeletal traffic on the roads in Srinagar.
Terming August 15 as a “black day” in the history of Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, urged people to observe shutdown on the Thursday.
“As a matter of fact we are not against India but unless it fulfill the demands and addresses aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, it has no moral justification to celebrate its Independence Day,” Geelani said in a statement.
