Curfew Continues in South Kashmir; Restrictions in Srinagar

SHOPIAN; 13, Sep 2013:  Authorities on Friday continued the curfew in south Kashmir's Shopian, Kulgam, Qaimoh, Pampore, Bijibehara, Khudwani and some other towns of valley.

Curfew continued on 6th day in Shopian where the clashes broke out after 4 civilians were killed on last Saturday by 14th Bn of CRPF inb Gagren area. Curfew was relaxed in the town on Wednesday, however CRPF allegedly shot dead one more youth and curfew was re-imposed.

Huriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani has appealed to the people to protest the Gagren firing incidents after Friday prayers.

Meanwhile life came to normal in Srinagar however Authorities have imposed restrictions in and around Srinagar city centre Lal Chowk, where Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik has announced a sit-in Friday against the Gagren firing incidents.

In Shopian, Police and paramilitary forces have blocked roads by concertina wires. Since the imposition of Curfew, people are repeatedly trying to defy this and have succeeded a few times.

Forces have hoisted red flags in the town announcing people to stay in-doors else we will shoot you on sight.
