Forces fire on Kulgam protest; 1 Critically injured

KULGAM; 12, Sep 2013: A teenager was critically injured when police and paramilitary forces Thursday opened fire at a protest demonstration in south Kashmir’s Kulgam distrist.

Along with Amir four persons sustained injuries in the incident.

The victim has been identified as Aamir Lone, 17, police official said.

Witnesses said a huge protest demonstration broke out in Khodwani locality of Kulgam district on Thursday afternoon against Shopian killings.

The protesters were passing in front of a J&K Police's SOG camp in Khodwani locality when the forces of the camp opened fire.

The victim was hit in the neck but it was not immediately known whether he suffered a rubber bullet or a normal bullet injury.

Aamir was referred to Bijbehera district hospital where he was given first aid and later referred to SKIMS hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.
