'Geelani was placed under house arrest after his arrival on March 7 this year'
SRINAGAR; 29, Sep 2013: Ayaz Akbar, Spokesman Hurriyat Conference termed police statement a good joke wherein police has submitted that Syed Ali Geelani is absconding and his whereabouts are not known.
Ayaz Akbar while commenting over the statement produced by police said that Syed Ali Geelani was placed under house arrest after his arrival on March 7 this year, However, it is interesting that police could not find any clue and could not produce him in court of law.
Ayaz Akbar said that today on 29th September Syed Ali Geelani turned 84 and he has served 15 years of jail term. Spokesman added that since last three years said leader has been confined to his residence and placed under house arrest without administrative order or legal justification.
Sunday, in a statement spokesman said that court had directed the police to produce Syed Ali Geelani in person however an interesting situation occurred in the court room, when police in its statement said that they instead of their strenuous efforts could not produce him ,because as per their version the whereabouts of Syed Ali Geelani are yet to be ascertained .
The police statement was refuted by the councils for Syed Ali Geelani and produced a report from a local newspaper wherein it was stated that said leader is virtually in police custody at Hyderpora since last 7 months and his movement prevented. The court after perusing the case directed the Inspector General of Police to elaborate and explain the police statement and asked whether the wanted person is in their custody or his whereabouts are not known.
Spokesman while strongly criticizing the police statement said that it is a absurd statement and an deliberate attempt to conceals facts and added if the police can adopt such a silly attitude towards a renowned leader then it is hard to expect any good from them for a common man. Spokesman said that it would be more interesting to see police response and how they can satisfy the court on next hearing.
Meanwhile spokesman said Syed Ali Geelani turned 84 today and as usual a contingent of police is keeping a strict vigil around his residence. Though he was invited to attend wedding ceremony of one of his nephew but police prevented him and was not allowed to move outside his residence.
Spokesman said that since last sixty years Syed Ali Geelani is perusing the precious cause and during this period he has served a jail term for 15 years and since year 2010, administration has confined him to his residence. He is the author of more than two dozen books and prominent among those are Rodad e Qafas,Wular Kinaray,Maqtal Se Wapse , Iqbal Rooh e Din Ka Shanasa,Roodad e Qafas, and his autobiography.
Spokesman said that he is a man of principle and in letter and spirit follows the discipline in every walk of his life. Hurriyat spokesman prayed for his good health and long life. (CNS)
