Tauseef only asked for water; CRPF troopers kicked us with jackboots: Shopian Survivor

SHOPIAN; 18, Sep 2013: Lying on a bed in his room at Bonabazar Shopian, the 19 year old Aadil Ahmad Wachkoo narrates the incident in which he lost his childhood friend forever...

18 Year old, Tauseef Ah Bhat of Baba Mohalla Shopian, killed by CRPF on 7th September 2013

"A shut-down was being observed in the town to protest against the Zubin Mehta's musical concert. I was having exam in Government Degree College Shopian. (The way to college passes through the camp). When we reached outside the camp, there were three or four troopers on the road, and a few more on the roof of an under-construction shop. They stopped us and then abused us. They ordered us to sit on road. They asked Tauseef to show the documents of the motorcycle. Tauseef was not carrying documents with him...

Another motorcycle with two persons on it too had also been stopped. They asked him for identity card. They abused him, and said he didn’t look 19 as the card said. I don’t know what happened to them later.

Suddenly they started firing, We ran for our lives, but the CRPF men were chasing us and firing randomly. A Bihar resident who was also running collapsed in the middle of the road. We saw the CRPF troopers fire a burst into his head, killing him instantly. We too collapsed, exhausted and bleeding.

The lane was too long. Tauseef kept on asking whether we would survive. I told him that we would live or die together. Soon the CRPF men were upon us, kicking us viciously in the abdomen with their jackboots. Somehow I managed to ask Tauseef to turn over. We just gave up. Tauseef was only asking for water, and the kicking went on.

The troopers had grabbed me. The commanding officer of the troopers had picked me up and taken me to a shop-front."

Later Police arrived on the spot, they didn't let them to take me. Then SHO Shopian argued with them and I was taken to hospital.

and the tears flowed from his eyes and he said, "Tauseef was much more than a friend to me. He was like my brother."
