Yasin Malik and 22 Others Arrested On Way to Shopian
PULWAMA; 28, Sep 2013: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik was today taken into custody along with 22 other front leaders when he was on way to Shopian, where five people were killed at Gagran on September 7 and 1 1 .
The killing evoked massive protests forcing administration to impose curfew restrictions, which continued for fortnight and were lifted on September 22. However, life remained crippled due to general strike since then.
A spokesperson for the front said Mr Malik was on way to Shopian when he was stopped by police at Newa in Pulwama district.
He was later taken into custody, the spokesperson said, adding that 22 other Front leaders were also arrested.
Mr Malik was going to Shopian to express his solidarity with the families of deceased persons besides with the people of Shopian, who were under curfew restrictions for more than two weeks.
The JKLF chief made similar attempt in the past but was prevented from going there.
