Geelani, Shah condemn Kulgam crackdown, term it ‘State terrorism’
SRINAGAR; 03, Oct 2013: Resistance leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Shabir Ahmad Shah have strongly condemned the crackdown, identification parades and sabotaging of properties of masses in Kiomoh area of Kulgam in South Kashmir. They have also condemned the assault on women and arrest spree of youth by terming it “State terrorism”.
Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani while condemning the continuous siege of Koimoh said Kashmiris are facing such kind of situation from past 24 years. “It has reminded us of identifications parades held in year 1990,” Geelani in a statement issued to GNS said, adding that force personnel harassed the entire population on mere pretext of presence of militants in the area.
Terming controversial AFSPA and Disturbed Area Act (DAA) as lifeline for these forces, Geelani said the forces under the garb of these black laws are empowered to search the houses without any justification and legal order. “It has put in danger the lives, honor and dignity of the people of these areas.
Seeking help from international human rights organizations Syed Ali Geelani urged them to take serious note of situation in Kashmir and appealed them to take measures to safeguard the interests, lives and honor of the people of Valley.
Freedom Party Chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah while strongly reacting against the forces highhandedness in the area said that to arrest and terrorize the innocent people including women and old-age persons on mere suspicious grounds is the “worst crime” and is intolerable.
Shah also condemned the government policy of continuously keeping incarcerated leaders which include Masrat Alam Bhat, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Mir Hafizullah, Muhammad Ishaaq Aitoo and Shakeel Ahamd Bhat under detention and re-slapping of PSAs on them. “The endeavors of pro-freedom leaders and pro-Hurriyat people cannot be
suppressed by suppression. The people’s pro-freedom spirit will not cool down by government’s anti-movement policies,” Shah in a statement issued to GNS said. (GNS)
