Militants Give Slip to Forces in Sopore

BARAMULLA; Militants on Friday gave slip to government forces after a brief firefight in Sopore town in north Kashmir’s Varmul district, where a police officer of the police’s anti-militant wing was killed earlier this week.

Sources said acting on information regarding the presence of some militants, army’s 27 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group of police cordoned off Chirhar forest area of Marble in Sopore today morning and started combing operation to flush out the suspected militants.

As the team started search operations, the militants hiding in the forest area opened several shots at them before fleeing.

Though forces intensified the searches in the area, the militants, sources said, have managed to escape.

Later in the day, forces busted the militant hideout in the forest area and recovered large quantity of eatable items. The search operation was in progress when the last reports came in.

Earlier, some reputed news channels posted on social networking sites and also from their websites, that one to two militants have been killed.
