K Rajendra Appointed as SDG; Er Rasheed Criticizes Appointment

JAMMU; Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar took over the charge of Special Director General of Police (Coordination), Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today.

Mr. Rajendra, 1984 batch IPS officer will hold the charge of Special Director General of Police, which has recently been created by the government. Mr. Rejendra, who was presently posted as D.G. Prisons (J&K), has served the State in various capacities including SP Doda, SSP Srinagar, DIG Srinagar, IGP Kashmir, IGP Headquarters (PHQ), IGP CID, IGP Jammu, ADGP CID and ADGP Armed/Law & Order.

Mr. Rajendra, during his service, has been awarded prestigious President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Services, President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, Sher-i-Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry, Sher-i-Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Services and President’s Police Medal for distinguished Services.

Meanwhile, Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) President and MLA Langate Engineer Rashid has criticized the government on this issue today in State Assembly. Er Rashid said , “ By alleviating K. Rajendra Kumar as Special Director General the government has literally made him ‘DGP in waiting’.

“The development clearly indicates that Omar Abdullah led government is promoting those officers who do not enjoy much great public reputation and do not have great track-record either. We need to bear in mind that right from police agitation of 1993 and the recent prison deaths during tenure of K.Rajendra Kumar as DGP Prisons point out that the said officials has hogged the limelight for all the wrong reasons. While on the other side honest and dedicated police officials are being continuously sidelined from time to time.”

“It is matter of great worry that K. Rajendra Kumar posting as Special Director General PHQ was done by the cabinet by circulation as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was reportedly out of station thus suggesting the hotchpotch nature of entire process.

Current government is favouring few blue-eyed officials and ignoring the competent and efficient officers. All these developments do not augur well for ushering an era of much needed transparency in Jammu & Kashmir.” observed Er Rashid. Er Rashid also vibrantly protested against the decision in the well of house and later had a walk out of the Assembly as a ‘mark of protest’.
