Hurriyat (M) flays govt for foiling ‘Martyrs Week’ seminar

SRINAGAR; 18, May 2013: All parties Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Saturday flayed the government after a seminar organized by the amalgam was thwarted.

The government allegedly used force to foil a seminar organized by the Awami Action Committee, Khanyar, in the Old City to pay tributes to Moulvi Mohammad Farooq on his 23rd death anniversary.

The APHC spokesman said that the main venue of the seminar- ‘Shaheedi Park’- was taken under siege and all the arrangements for the seminar were damaged.  He said: “The AAC vehicles were ceased while as workers and activists of the party were terrorized and harassed.”

He said that the posters and banners of the party at several places in the city were removed and government put APHC Chairman under house arrest so to foil the seminar.

The Hurriyat spokesman said the seminar was a planned part of ‘Martyrs Week’ programme and the government action was unprovoked.

He termed the government action to restrict the political, religious and social activities of the party as ‘frustration and political retribution’.

He said that the large participation of the people in ‘Martyrs Week’ programme flustered the authorities and thus they responded by putting restrictions on the emotions and aspirations of people.

The spokesman said the government had once again resorted to anti-democratic and anti-people policies to silence the genuine voices of Kashmir.
