Shopian reopens after 5 days under high security cover
SHOPIAN; 22, Aug, 2013: South Kashmir's Shopian town today reopened after 5 days after CRPF seized most of the residential areas, where from the protests erupted in past days.
Although the Shops and other business establishments opened but still there was a effect in the markets.
The Youth were protesting against the alleged highhandedness of police.
A local from Shopian informed, that hundreds of youth have left their homes and are spending their nights under the open sky as Forces have created a reign of terror in the area.
“I can tell with authority that 90 percent population of the town is against the activities of few stone pelters,” Station House Officer (SHO) Shopian, Irshad Ahmad claimed while talking to media. He added that , most of the people were in close touch with police to normalize the situation but the activities “of a few stone-pelters had hijacked” the whole town.
Police have arrested ten people mostly youngsters in connection with the stone pelting and allegedly instigating “anti-India” protests.
“We have arrested 10 people who are involved in the three cases registered,” SHO Irshad said adding that police is looking for some other youths who are also involved in the said cases but still they are at large.
“We are also looking for Zubair Ahmad Turray, who is involved in a number of cases and we are sure that we will arrest him very soon,” SHO informed.
Zubair Turray, is a local youth from Bonabazar locality. He was booked under draconian PSA in the aftermath of execution of Shaheed Afzal Guru but after 3 months the PSA was quashed by the High court.
