Srinagar Encounter Ends; 8 Cops Injured, Militant Escaped Safely

SRINAGAR; 03, Oct 2013: Fierce gun-battle between Indian forces and suspected militants in Ahmednagar locality of Soura in Srinagar ended after militant (s) managed to escape from the site during the late night hours.

Locals say, firing stopped around 3:30 am in the morning, later the forces started a search operation however they found nothing.

Yesterday evening, a joint battalion of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police cordoned off the area. Conflicting reports were received about the presence of militant/militants in the area. Some reports suggest a top Lashker-e-Toiba commander Abu Huraira has been trapped while others suggest 2-3 militants have been holed up.

During the initial firing 8 JKP cops including one sub-inspector were injured. While the Official records confirms the injuries of only 4 police personnel.
