KUPWARA; The private coaching centres operating in Kralpora area of the Kupwara District have allegedly become hub of “rowdiness and hooliganism,” which the locals blame is due to the lack of proper monitoring mechanism by the government.
“This area has become a hub of raucousness and immoral activities with good percentage of youth reportedly coming for tuition here keep on roaming around instead of attending classes,” said Mir Altad, a social activist of the area.
“Not only students, but some hooligans too come to this area often to tease the girl students. This has become a favorite haunt for youth to indulge in all kinds of fishy activities,” he added.
A group of Girl students enrolled at a coaching centre said; “We are 100 students in the batch, but not more than 70% attend the classes regularly. There is no accountability from the coaching centre administration as they are only bothered about money.”
A girl student said she had brought the issue of eve-teasing and waywardness to the notice of coaching centre head. “Instead of taking any action, I was asked to leave the centre,” she said.
The students complain that the classrooms are so jam-packed that the students of both the genders can’t avoid brushing shoulders.
Some students especially girls who seem to be fed up with the murky environment at the coaching centres, blamed their parents for forcing them to get enrolled in these centres. “I am feeling suffocated and insecure in this mixed up crowd. I blame my parents for forcing me to get enrolled here without checking the facts about the centre. It is disgusting,” she said.
The aggrieved student said that she had repeatedly asked the coaching centre head to take some action against these hooligans.
The girl students told this reporter that we are feeling insecure in these coaching centres and District administration has maintained silence as they are getting huge wages for this.
