KUPWARA; Border town of Kupwara observed a shutdown for third consecutive day today in protest against the killing of seven persons, whom Army and Police are claiming as militants in Dardpora on Monday. Strict curfew like restrictions, however, continue in Lalpora which witnessed massive protests and clashes two days back.

Shops and business establishments in town remained closed. Streets wore a deserted lookl. Police and para military forces have intensified the patrolling. Lalpora continues to be under “undeclared” curfew and no movement of civilians is allowed. The district has been tense for the last few days after the clashes to protest the killing of militants broke out in the area. “Situation is under control” a police officer said.

In the past two days more than 2 dozen civilians were injured in clashes.
