MeT Predicts Rain, Snow for Next 24 Hours
SRINAGAR; Light to moderate rain or snow is likely to occur from this evening for next two days in the Kashmir Valley.
There was no respite from chill in border town of Kargil where the minimum temperature continued to be around minus 15.2 degrees Celsius while there was major improvement in Leh.
A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that light to moderate rain or snow would occur at many places in Kashmir and Jammu regions and isolated places over Ladakh region during the next 24 hours.
He said rain or snow activity would continue up to February 28.
Kargil continued to freeze as there was no improvement in the night temperature as mercury remained minus 15.2 degrees for the past two days.
However, Leh witnessed major improvement, he said, adding against yesterday’s minus 10 degrees minimum temperature it was minus 4.5 degrees.
The spokesman said the sky would be partly cloudy at Leh with maximum and minimum temperatures around 7 degrees and minus 9 degrees respectively.
Gulmarg, a famed ski resort, was coldest with minus 5.2 degrees minimum temperature though it was about a notch above normal.
Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine, recorded minus 4 degree night temperature, a degree above normal.
The summer capital, Srinagar, where the maximum was six degree above normal yesterday, the minimum temperature witnessed one degree below normal.
The spokesman said there could be light rain or snow with maximum and minimum temperatures around 12 degrees and one degree respectively during the next 24 hours.
At Kupwara, the minimum temperature was minus 0.9 degree, Qazigund minus 0.4 degree and Kokernag 0.4 degree.
