2 Cops Killed; Another Injured in Pulwama

PULWAMA: Two policemen were killed and one received injuries during an attack by rebels in South Kashmir’s Pulwama on Monday afternoon.

Sources told that gunmen opened fire upon a police vehicle outside the district court complex in the district, resulting in injuries to three policemen.

“All the injured policemen were immediately rushed to nearby hospital for treatment, however, one cop succumbed to his injuries,” sources said.

A doctor at the government-run hospital where the injured policemen were being treated confirmed the death of two policemen.

Sources identified the slain policemen as Mukhtiyar Ahmed Wani (484PL) resident of Syed Wari Qazigund and Farooq Ahmed Mir (70PL) resident of Vedpora Pulwama.

Army, special operation group of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force have cordoned off the area and have launched a hunt to nab the attackers.

The rebel organization Hizb-ul Mujahideen “fightng for the liberation of Kashmir” has claimed responsibility of the attack.

In a telephonic statement to a local news gathering agency, Hizb operational spokesman Balig-ud-din said, “ Freedom fighters of of Hizbul Mujahideen have carried out the attack on police in South Kashmir’s Pulwama.”

 The Hizb spokesman stated further that the likewise attacks will continue against the Indian forces in the coming days.
