Cop Stabbed in Pampore; Assailant Arrested
PULWAMA; A police official was critically injured after he was stabbed by a youth while on duty in Pampore township of Pulwama district on Monday morning.
The victim has been identified as Bupinder Singh, who was discharging duty near a bridge in the township, when he was stabbed by Ishfaq Ahmad Khan, a resident of Tral area.
The injured policeman collapsed on the spot and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
Confirming the incident, the police said the youth has been arrested.
"An assailant attacked and stabbed a police official in Pampore market. He was chased and overpowered by some policemen nearby. The victim has been admitted to SDH Pampore, from where he has been referred to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS)," a police spokesperson said.
Police says that the motive behind the act was not known, however, some reports suggest that the youth is 'mentally unstable'.
