PULWAMA:At least a dozen people, including three troopers and two women on Saturday were injured after bitten by stray dogs in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.

A pack of stray dogs attacked and injured at least a dozen people, including three CRPF men and two women in a spate of fresh attacks in Rahmoo village of Pulwama district. Two of the injured who were badly mauled by the canines, are said to be critical. The injured civilians have been identified as Hilal Ahmad, Khursheed Ahmad, Shabir Ahmad, Ghulam Qadir, Haji Kamal, Afra Rashid, Altaf Wani, Abdul Aziz Dar, and Sara Bano. The injured troopers have been identified as Raj Kumar, Dinesh Kumar and Ashok Baji.

“The stray dogs have let loose a reign of terror in the area. The elderly and the children are the most vulnerable to attacks by canines. Even youth fear to move out of their houses after sunset,” Ali Mohammad Dar, the village Sarpanch told.

Accusing the municipal council of negligence, Dar said that canines are brought from Srinagar and left in Pulwama district to attack and injure hapless villagers. He asked the municipal council to take immediate steps to control the dog menace in the area.
